The Beauty of the Late Summer Lull
There’s something sacred about the first week of August. The sun still clings to summer, golden and generous—but the pace has shifted. Mornings feel a little quieter. Evenings cool down just enough to light a candle or crack the window open. And whether or not you have school-aged kids, there’s an undeniable sense that the season is changing.
But we’re not quite there yet. This is the in-between. And I happen to think it’s worth savoring.
5 Subtle Ways to Transition Your Home for the Season
1. Layer Lightly
Start introducing soft textures that signal warmth without weighing things down. Think gauzy linen throws over the back of a chair, or a lightweight quilt folded at the foot of the bed. In the shoppe, I love to stock pieces like handwoven textiles and block print quilts—timeless, breathable, and beautiful.

2. Shift the Palette
Now’s a lovely time to quietly usher in richer tones—without going full pumpkin spice. Try swapping bright whites for warm taupes or earthy greens. Dried stems in amber tones, ceramic pieces in aged neutrals, or even a deeper table runner can bring just enough depth to ground your space without rushing the season.

3. Edit with Intention
After a full summer of living, entertaining, traveling, or simply making memories at home, our spaces can start to feel a little overrun. Now is a beautiful time to take a slow walk through your home and edit—clear off a surface, retire summer-specific decor, make room for new rhythms.
4. Bring in Rituals
This season calls for grounding routines—candles lit at dusk, a designated spot for school bags or keys, a fresh stack of books on the nightstand. Design is most powerful when it supports the rhythms that matter most to you and your family right now.

5. Shop Slow
At Heirloom, we’re intentionally holding off on our big fall reveal just a little while longer. We want to let August be August. But if you’re craving a little refresh, come visit the shoppe—we’re slowly trickling in transitional pieces that speak to both sun-drenched simplicity and quiet comfort.
Whether it’s a vintage bowl that grounds your kitchen, a handcrafted vessel that holds the season’s first stems, or a woven basket to house your towels—these little things matter.

Let Your Home Breathe With You
Wherever this August finds you—in the thick of back-to-school prep, knee-deep in design projects (like me!), or just trying to catch your breath before the seasons shift—I hope you find beauty in the pause. It’s a fleeting season, but it holds so much possibility.
