The Art of Summer: Slow Living, Home Refreshes & What We’re Loving This Season

There’s something sacred about the start of summer. The light lingers longer, the breeze grows slower, and our spaces—inside and out—begin to reflect a rhythm of rest, simplicity, and connection.

At Heirloom and through our design work, this season invites us to return to the essence of what makes a house a home: the scent of citrus and wild herbs drifting through an open window, the tactile joy of linen on sun-kissed skin, and the way natural materials breathe life into quiet corners.

What We’re Loving This Season

1. Earthy blues & leafy greens
From sky-washed chambray to muted sage, these hues are showing up everywhere—in painted cabinetry, patterned textiles, and even dishware. They whisper coolness into the heat and pair beautifully with warm neutrals.

2. Airy layers + natural texture
We’re swapping out heavy throws for gauzy linen, trading wool rugs for jute or vintage flatweaves, and styling woven baskets and wooden accents that speak to the outdoors. Design-wise, it’s all about breathing room and barefoot elegance.

3. Entertaining with intention
Summer is for shared tables and porchlight dinners. We’re loving unfussy styling: vintage platters for fresh fruit, artisan ceramic pitchers for sun tea, and a mix of old and new at the table. It’s the season to gather slowly and beautifully.

4. Indoor-outdoor harmony
Design is leaning into lifestyle. Think Dutch doors, garden views from the kitchen sink, or a reading nook that spills out to the patio. We’re designing spaces that dissolve the barrier between inside and out.

How We’re Refreshing Our Homes

This summer, our own homes are getting subtle but meaningful updates: a new lamp here, freshly painted trim there, a vintage oil painting replacing the generic wall print. It’s not about perfection—it’s about character.

We’re also embracing the ritual of editing—removing what no longer serves the season. That might mean tucking away the winter palette or donating the extras that clutter the calm. In return, we’re making room for pieces with soul—hand-thrown ceramics, crisp cotton bedding, and heirloom-quality accents that tell a story.
